Abia Govt reveals plan to celebrate 30th anniversary of state creation

The Abia State Government has said it will be celebrating the 30th year anniversary of the creation of the state on Friday, August 27, at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia, the state capital, by 10am.

This was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday by the Secretary to State Government, Barrister Chris Ezem.

According to the statement, participation in the programme would be strictly by invitation. It also stressed that all participants must adhere to COVID-19 protocols.

The statement reads in part, “Events lined up for this year’s celebration include:

“Press briefing by the Chairman, Abia State Advisory Council, Ezeogo Dr. Anagha Ezikpe on Thursday, 19th August 2021 at the Conference Hall of the Secretary to Abia State by 11.00am.

“Special Jumat Prayers by Muslims in their various Mosques on Friday, 20th August, 2021.

“Special Church Service on Saturday, 21st August, 2021 at Seventh Day Adventist Church, Aguiyi Ironsi Layout, Umuahia by 11am.

“The Climax of the celebration will be on Friday , 27th August, 2021 with early morning broadcast by the Governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu.

“The main event will kick off by 10am at the Michael Okpara Auditorium where there will be an Anniversary Lecture by Mr. Raymond Nkemdirim , retired Director of DSS, presentation of a book titled RECOLLECTED IN TRANQUILITY: A FESTSCHRIFT FOR OKEZIE VICTOR CHIBUIKEM IKPEAZU(Ph.D) and presentation of Awards to deserving Abians.

“The following are therefore invited to the Church Service on 21st of August, 2020 and Anniversary celebration on 27th of August, 2020;-

“The wife of the Governor, The Deputy Governor and His wife, the Speaker, Abia State House of Assembly and members, the Chief Judge of Abia State and the President, Customary Court of Appeal.

“Others invited include, the Head of Service of Abia State, Serving and Former members of Abia State Executive Council, Chairman PDP and his Executives, PDP Stakeholders in the State, Serving and former members of the National Assembly, members of Abia State Advisory Council and Elders Forum, Chief of Staff to the Governor and Deputy Chief of Staff to the Deputy Governor, Body of Permanent Secretaries, Local Government Chairmen and their Deputies, Chairman, Abia State Traditional Rulers Council and Executives.

“Also invited are Heads of all Security Agencies in the State, the Pro Chancellor Vice- Chancellor of Abia State University, Uturu, Michael Okpara University , Gregory Universities and other Heads of higher Institutions and Corporate bodies in Abia State and Chairman and members of Christian Association of Nigeria”.
