Man bags 5 years imprisonment over land fraud in Gombe

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), said one Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu has been convicted and sentenced to five years imprisonment by a Gombe State High Court presided over by Justice M.A. Abubakar.

The anti-graft agency noted that the convict was imprisoned after he was found him guilty on a three-count charge of cheating, possession and use of forged documents brought against the him by the Agency.

It also said the convict was said to have sometime in July, 2020 obtained the sum of Two Million, Two Hundred Thousand Naira only from the complainant for the sale of a house at Federal Low Cost Housing Estate, Gombe.

According to the EFCC, “To make the deal look legitimate, the convict issued the petitioner with a forged Right of Occupancy with No.BA 1658 bearing the name of one Alhaji Abba Abubakar.

“Upon his arraignment, Adamu pleaded guilty”.

It, however, said the Court thereafter convicted and sentenced him to 1 year imprisonment or a fine of N20,000 on count 1; 2 years imprisonment or a fine of N30,000 on count 2 and two years or a fine of N30,000 on count 3.

“He was ordered to pay restitution to the victim in the sum of N300, 000, being the balance of the N2, 200,000.00 involved in the scam”, EFCC stated.
